As a dancer, Lis has trained extensively in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Kathak and West African Dance. She has taught the Nia Technique & Yoga for many years having practiced Dance since the age of 8 and Yoga since the age of 15. She is pictured in “Yoga for Wellness” by Gary Kraftsow.
Lis is currently developing a technique that combines elements of Yoga, Dance and Vocal Toning called KiVo: the Kinetic Voice TM. See “calendar” for a listing of classes.
She has created a series of Healing Chakra Tones TM, designed to clear and activate the energy centers of the body. A CD of these tones set to ambient music entitled “The Song of the Tree” is due out in spring of 2008.
Phyllis leads groups and circles that offer healing and transformation through sound & movement, namely vocal toning, chanting, yoga, dance and guided meditations.

Lis (Phyllis) Addison is an award winning composer/songwriter, vocalist, keyboardist and dancer. She specializes in innovative forms of music and movement that incorporate ancient wisdom and promote healing for the earth and all beings.
Lis offers a multidisciplinary, multi-cultural approach to music, movement and the healing arts.
She holds a BA in music composition and environmental science and an MFA in electronic music from Mills College. She has written music for film, video, bands, solo performance and the concert stage. She has authored the book and music for a rock opera entitled “The
Daughters of Urth” about a matriarchy that lives in harmony with nature. Her composition teachers include Anthony Payne, Lou Harrison, Terry Riley and Allaudin Mathieu.
As an active performance artist in the Los Angeles and Bay Areas, Lis has performed in numerous venues from religious centers to the Los Angeles Theatre Center, The World Festival of Sacred Music, The Staten Island Institute of the Arts, New Langton Arts, the Gene Autry Museum and the Bowers and deYoung Museums. She’s performed with rock groups like Pablo Cruise in California and Hawaii and with world musicians such as Brent Lewis, Daniel Paul, Ross Kent, Jim Berenholz, Onye Onyemaichi and Viviana Guzman.
Phyllis has been a student of Bhakti Yoga under Adi Da Samraj and Nada Yoga (the Yoga of Sound Vibration) with N. Indian classical singing Masters Pandit Pran Nath and Ali Akbar Khan. She’s studied these and western vocal styles for over 3 decades.
